ABOUT US

Colorado Green Building Guild strives to ensure the widespread adoption of sustainable building practices to increase the efficient use of resources, create healthier indoor environments, and support vibrant, sustainable communities throughout Colorado. Through community events, from educational workshops and themed seminars, to Happy Hours, Green Home Tours and networking opportunities, the guild offers its members, sponsors and partners the chance to share their knowledge, increase their business opportunities, support a clean energy economy and make sustainable building common a practice throughout the state.

THE HISTORY OF CGBG

Founded in 2004, the guild was the vision of a group of building professionals who decided it was time to make a significant, positive impact on the Boulder community. Boulder was the first city to create mandatory green building standards, called "Green Points," for all new residential structures and renovations larger than 500 square feet. These builders, however, felt inspired to develop more stringent standards that reflected the increasing need to build healthier and more resource-efficient living spaces. Although each of the professionals contributed to green building individually by creating high quality, durable structures, they realized that their ability to build green homes and workplaces was limited by the lack of available and affordable green building products, as well as the misinformed homeowners and building professionals with whom they worked on a daily basis. They formed the Boulder Green Building Guild to fill this education gap.

In 2011 the Board of Directors voted to transition the Boulder Green Building Guild into the Colorado Green Building Guild in order to develop a broader organization with a new vision that says:

GREEN BUILDING IS FOR EVERYONE LOOKING FOR LONG-TERM SOLUTIONS THAT CONTROL COSTS, IMPROVE HEALTH AND FOSTER A SUSTAINABLE COMMUNITY.
